| Born in East Yorkshire I trained in
Graphic Design at Hull College of Art. Hull has since won the title of the worst place to live in England. The award has given the town a lot of confidence and her citizens are justifiably proud of the honour. After graduating I worked for a few years in London Advertising Agencies before embarking on a career teaching Graphic Design and Advertising. I was employed as a senior lecturer in Advertising at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College. It was a job I loved. I couldn't believe I was being paid to do it - neither could my students. Having left the College in 2003 I am now visiting lecturer to the leading colleges in advertising in Milan, Amsterdam and England. In 1998 I designed and took the photographs for The Hook Norton Brewery's Collectors Calendar, and went on to produce all the subsequent calendars for the Brewery. The 2002 edition was nominated for a silver pencil award by D&AD, the most prestigious design and advertising body in the country. |
I'm a
committed black and white photographer of landscapes, still life and
people. I was trained in "wet darkroom" printing, but find the world of
digital image making has opened up enormous possibilities for producing
fine art images. I'm keen to explore ways of combining the two
disciplines, possibly through contact printing techniques. Current projects include: photographing old and ancient trades, crafts, and occupations, portraits of artist, cityscapes of Milan, Amsterdam and Venice, and the fishing community of Cabo Finisterre Northern Spain. And a protracted study of 'Drinkers' - their bars, habits and nightlife. A work in progress exhibition took place in The Digby gallery Colchester this year. I'm now living in Cromer, Norfolk, producing a series of land and seascapes - and of course some studies of Norfolk drinking haunts. This year I was very pleased to find out I'd won Professional Photographer of the Year.
